These films were produced for educational and warning purposes. The goal of these films was to raise awareness among young people about topics deemed dangerous by the U.S. approach of the time. The films addressed issues such as alcohol, drugs, unprotected sex, homosexuality, and reckless driving. To create a sense of realism in the viewer, make the subject matter more deterrent, and ensure the film left a lasting impression, the films included numerous scenes of abuse. The films generally presented footage of real events and/or reenactments to the audience without censorship. Recognized for their educational purpose and their role in shaping society, the “educational” films of the 1930s and 1940s managed to reach audiences after passing through censorship boards.
