Actionploitation films are described as parodies of action movies made in the ’70s and ’80s that achieved significant box office success. Actionploitation films contain a high level of action, which takes precedence over the story. To showcase the action, the ups and downs of the good and bad characters are repeated numerous times throughout the film. Genres such as martial arts, street fighting, chases, and gunfights, along with crime, thriller, drama, and melodrama, dominate the narrative. Similar to slasher and splatter films, gore content is common. Even when shot outside the United States, actionploitation films retain many elements of the American style.
