Britsploitation films consist of movies produced in the United Kingdom by Hammer Film Productions. All films that make up this subgenre are known to fans as Hammer Horror. Hammer Film Productions has produced works in many genres, including thriller, crime, drama, fantasy, war, comedy, and science fiction. However, the films that gained the most traction and spread within subcultures were the horror films known as Hammer Horror. Hammer Horror films achieved box office success, gaining worldwide recognition and a distribution network. They had the opportunity to work with many well-known American distribution companies. By the late 1960s and into the 1970s, the successful adaptation of the horror genre by other production companies reduced Hammer Film Productions’ revenue and market share. The company, which ceased production in the 1980s, was sold in 2000; production initially halted completely but later resumed with a small number of films.
