Catsploitation films began to be made in the 1930s and 1940s. The 1970s and 1980s were the periods when the number of productions peaked. The Catsploitation genre is a subgenre of monster movies, also known as “Nature-run-amok” or “Eco-terror.” Following the same logic as monster movies, cats typically gain superhuman abilities to seek revenge against humans. It is common to see numerous cat transformations in these films. In some Catsploitation films, however, cats interfere in people’s lives solely through paranormal interactions.
