CGIsploitation films are those in which CGI technology is used while disregarding its technical and aesthetic elements. In films within this genre, the technical processes and effort required for CGI to achieve realism are ignored. While CGI is used in “normal” (!) films to serve their narrative needs, CGI exploitation films push the boundaries of what can be done with CGI in increasingly outlandish ways. For this reason, CGI exploitation films generally defy the laws of physics, ignore proper texturing, and subvert realism. Since these films never quite manage to fully conceal their CGI or tend to overdo it, the audience is unable to fully immerse themselves in the film. Some CGIsploitation films aim to incorporate comedy into their genre by leveraging these shortcomings, shifting toward hybrid genres such as comedy-thriller or horror-thriller.
