Hippie exploitation films are movies that depict the hippie culture, which was on the rise between the early 1960s and the late 1970s. The hippie movement in the U.S. began as a youth movement. Consisting mostly of white young adults between the ages of 15 and 25, hippies inherited the tradition of cultural dissent from the bohemians and beatniks of the Beat Generation in the late 1950s. This movement, which emerged in the U.S., spread rapidly around the world, particularly in Europe. In Hippie Exploitation films, which focus on hippies, the main elements of the story include the use of LSD, acid, and marijuana; sexuality; nudity; orgies; sex; hallucinatory experiences; communal living; music; and young people who want to live their freedom to the fullest.
