Macaroni Combat films may also be referred to by various other names, such as Euro War, Macaroni War, Spaghetti Combat, or Spaghetti War. This variation in naming stems from the fact that the films were produced in different countries. Macaroni Combat films were Italian war movies produced in the 1960s and 1970s, inspired by Hollywood films, in an attempt to make money. They typically capitalized on the titles and plots of blockbuster films made in the U.S. All of them featured experienced actors—the so-called “Italian Yanks”—who were usually older stars whose popularity had waned in their home countries. Following their success, these films began to be produced not only in Italy but also in other European countries. Other European countries also began participating as co-producers in films produced in Italy.
