Mexploitation - List of Mexican Exploitation Films
M-exploitation films are also known as “Cabrito Westerns” or “Mexican home videos.” It is a film genre consisting of low-budget films that combine elements of exploitation films with depictions of Mexican culture and Mexican life. Generally, the stories revolve around drugs, crime, and sexuality. Mexploitation films are the main genre of Mexican narco cinema, or “narko-películas.” Mexploitation films focus on the luxurious lifestyles of drug lords and cartels, which are filled with violence and sexuality. The titles and storylines of these films are often inspired by popular narco-corridos (drug ballads or drug songs). This has been a key factor in facilitating the films’ recognition and marketing. The films’ connection to the criminal underworld is even stronger than one might expect. Like the songs in question, these films also have connections to real-life drug lords. The films sometimes recount real events, while at other times they manipulate the facts. Famous narco-corrido singers sometimes appear in the films. It is rumored that the films are partially or entirely financed by drug lords.
