Mockbuster films, also known as "remaksploitation," are remakes of blockbuster films. Blockbusters are massive productions marketed on a scale that dominates the box office and the cinema industry, backed by extensive distribution networks. Mockbuster films exploit blockbuster films by largely copying and reinterpreting them. Mockbusters can exploit blockbusters in various ways. While some opt for direct copying, effectively becoming a version of the original film, others take a partial approach, transforming the blockbuster into something entirely different. While some mockbusters poke fun at the original film, others claim to approach the subject with even greater seriousness than the original. Nevertheless, there may be inconsistencies between what mockbusters intend and what ultimately results. Mockbusters do not have large budgets. In most cases, copyright issues are ignored.
