Rape and Revenge films deal with acts of revenge taken by rape victims or their loved ones. Rape is generally committed against women. Beyond sexual abuse, rape is also fueled by sexist attitudes toward women, hostility toward the social class to which the woman belongs, and the vast disparity in income levels (!). In these films, the woman (or her loved one) undergoes a psychological transformation following the rape and sets out to punish the rapists—usually through illegal means and with a level of violence commensurate with the abuse she suffered. Within this general framework, the film’s content draws heavily from the genres of sexploitation, slasher, and splatter films.
