Stoner films—also known as “Stonersploitation”—can be traced back to the early days of cinema, much like other exploitation genres. For example, *Reefer Madness* (1936), classified as a “warning film” of the 1930s and 1940s, can be considered one of the early starting points for stoner films. Stoner films tell the stories of characters who use marijuana. Regardless of the “warning films” of the 1930s and 1940s, stoner films are generally produced as comedies. The plots of these films focus on the mishaps and foolish antics of characters under the influence. Although there are examples made in the drama, horror, thriller, and action genres, these films may still contain comedic elements. It is common to find two close friends or a small group of friends as the central characters in these films.
