ZAxploitation is a term used to describe exploitation films shot in South Africa, which has the country code ZA. Similar to Turksploitation and Mexploitation, ZAxploitation films serve as a brief overview of the entire exploitation film genre, encompassing all of its subgenres. In keeping with the nature of exploitation cinema, ZAxploitation films are generally B movies. Produced on low budgets, these films aim to quickly gain recognition and generate box office revenue through the presentation of sensational content—this is the primary motivation for producers. The production of ZAxploitation films, which began in the early days of cinema, continues at a rapid pace to this day. Unlike exploitation genres in other countries, co-productions are frequently encountered in ZAxploitation films. Films produced jointly by South African producers and producers from other countries have significantly increased the global recognition of both the ZAxploitation genre and South African cinema.
