Guided by the logic that “if the world is already corrupt, then so are we,” two young women turn into a wave of destruction that sweeps through the streets of Prague and across banquet tables. In this rebellious and anarchic classic of the Czech New Wave, rules, tables, and bourgeois norms are shattered one by one. Shaped by Věra Chytilová, the film evolves into a wild celebration of anarchy, adorned with color filters, bizarre sound effects, and a collage-like aesthetic. Marie and Marie roam the streets, mocking all of life’s false seriousness.
