After committing a dark crime on the streets of Paris, Pierre—now penniless amid the sweltering crowds of Barcelona—takes a wild detour to escape his past. Directed by Julien Duvivier, this drama gradually intensifies the character’s inner turmoil. Amid the sand-covered, eerie, and suffocating atmosphere of the Spanish Foreign Legion, neither the past murder can be forgotten nor is this place—thought to be a refuge—safe. The newly formed friendships, meanwhile, will eventually turn into shadows.
