Summary
In the wild desolation of volcanic deserts, everything begins with the silent, eerie footsteps of a cannibal who cannot get enough of human flesh. As Pier Paolo Pasolini navigates the ambiguous voids of history in this harrowing drama, he turns the most fundamental laws of civilization upside down. The second story takes place beneath the gray industrial skies of postwar Germany. Julian, the son of a wealthy industrialist, flees the hypocrisy of human society and finds refuge on a pig farm. Living as a social misfit, the young man completely severs his ties with the world. The dark and obsessive bond he forges with the animals pushes the boundaries of order. The camera captures the characters’ inner decay with a detached yet piercing gaze.
