Summary
In the misty streets of the port of Le Havre, Jean, a deserter, walks with footsteps that blend into the night. As he tries to forget the military uniform he left behind and the unresolved issues of his past, the oppressive atmosphere of the docks has already engulfed him. In Marcel Carné’s dark and melancholic world of drama, it quickly becomes clear that the port cannot serve as a refuge. On the streets of escape and rootlessness, shaking off the shadows that follow his footsteps is not so easy. Their paths cross in the faint light of the streetlamps shrouded in fog. In the shadow of a criminal network, this dangerous romance—sprouting among the ships anchored at the docks—drives the characters toward an inevitable end. This harbor, where those seeking to escape take refuge, ultimately becomes a mirror in which everyone must confront their own truth.
