Summary
The muggy heat of New York’s asphalt, neon lights shimmering during the night shift, and the hum of engines echoing in the mind of a man gripping the steering wheel. Martin Scorsese observes the urban decay of the 1970s and that vast, all-consuming void through the rearview mirror of a Vietnam veteran plagued by insomnia. The silhouettes flowing through the streets of Manhattan are toxic details that fuel Travis’s loneliness and alienation. Lost among the crowds, this assassin’s soul, watching the moral decay in the city’s streets, is dragged with heavy steps toward his own darkness.
