The New Babylon

In the streets of Paris in 1871, where the smell of gunpowder hangs in the air and marches echo through the streets, the excitement of a provisional order established against capital is in the air. Directed by Leonid Trauberg and Grigori Kozintsev, this historical drama unfolds during those dusty and tenacious days of the revolution. On one side is a young soldier enlisted in the army; on the other, a female shopkeeper at the barricades. This bond, budding at the threshold of two different worlds, is put to the test in the shadow of the impending violent upheaval. The human spirit, resisting the crushing power of capital and authority, finds itself trapped between the gears of the era.
