Summary
We are in the mid-1960s in Japan. As the streets are rocked by student uprisings, the neon signs of popular culture and the rubble left in the shadow of war flow side by side. Toshio Matsumoto constructs this visual experience based on the premise that our two eyes perceive different realities at the same time. On one side, bohemian lifestyles and art events; on the other, deformed fetuses and raw images of violence collide.
Every frame that appears on screen transports the chaotic spirit of the era to the present without any filters. As billboards, street clashes, and archival fragments intertwine, the viewer is forced to find their own way through this uncanny landscape straddling the line between dream and nightmare.
