An invisible boundary drawn between them and a single flower clinging to that boundary. In this short film, in which Norman McLaren turns the conventions of comedy and animation on their head, he magnifies—pixel by pixel—the conflict between two neighbors who call an ordinary garden home. Using stop-motion to animate live actors, the director brings an absurd standoff to the screen. This surreal world, which looks as if it leapt right off the pages of a newspaper, offers a sharp and silent satire on human nature—a nature that dismisses the possibility of peace with a wave of the hand.
