Summary
As Troy lay in ruins and the ships set sail for home, Odysseus’s long and arduous journey, buffeted by the winds of the Mediterranean, began. One of the earliest examples of the historical adventure genre, this work invites the audience on a journey—spanning years spent far from home and homeland—that is never tedious but always intriguing. Back at the palace in Ithaca, however, time passes much more slowly. While everyone has come to believe that the king is dead, Queen Penelope holds fast to her faith. This quiet, deeply rooted narrative, imbued with echoes of Greek mythology, offers one of cinema’s earliest portrayals of loyalty and patience.
