The Killers

At the counter of a dimly lit restaurant as the sun sets, the weight of the approaching, inevitable end hangs in the air. In a space dominated by an oppressive silence, two men watch for the arrival of the victim they’ve been waiting for. This short film, conceived as a student project by the trio of Marika Beiku, Andrei Tarkovsky, and Aleksandr Gordon, blends the aesthetics of classic film noir with a Dostoevskian sense of unease. The frames, in which time seems to flow slowly, succeed in fixing that suffocating sense of impending danger onto the viewer.
