In the outskirts of Milan, as makeshift shacks rise from a barren patch of land, life is rebuilt in its purest form. Vittorio De Sica blends poverty with a fairy-tale-like tone in this tragicomic and fantastical world. Totò, who has moved from the orphanage courtyards to the streets, never loses his cheerfulness or kindness. Filling every moment with hope, this young man seems to change the very flow of life in the gloomy streets. But when the shadow of capital and greed falls upon this poor neighborhood, things change.
