Grand Illusion

During the muddy and exhausting days of World War I, French soldiers trapped behind the German lines find themselves in the shadow of wooden bunks and barbed wire rather than in the trenches. Directed by Jean Renoir, this drama brings together people from two different worlds on the same bunk. The sharp lines between the aristocracy and the working class begin to blur within the gray walls of the prisoner-of-war camp. As escape plans are whispered, the delicate bonds formed between aristocratic officers and prisoners place humanity and solidarity at the center, setting aside the destructive reality of war.
