It all begins on the dusty roads of the Italian countryside, amid the echoes of drums reverberating in the shadow of circus tents. Gelsomina, a girl with a pure and fragile soul, is sold by her impoverished mother to Zampanò, a street performer who relies on brute force. This harrowing drama, bearing the signature of Federico Fellini, centers on the arduous journey of two mismatched souls through damp caravans and desolate towns. Faced with Zampanò’s silent rage and coldness, Gelsomina tries to survive through the absurd movements she has memorized. The sadness brought on by the nomadic life takes on a new dimension when the tightrope walker enters the circus tent.
