Plastic figures mimic people’s daily hustle and bustle in the quiet of their homes. These little lives, played out on the kitchen counter or in a dusty corner of the living room, are confined by the limitations imposed by hard plastic and immobile joints. Vincent Tsui uses the possibilities offered by animation to imbue these lifeless objects with a silent yet stubborn struggle for existence. When comedic elements combine with the helplessness inherent in being a toy, a strange dissonance emerges. With their fixed poses, limited mobility, and characters trapped among the massive objects in the home, these figures create great dramas within their own small worlds. Amid cracked porcelain and figures with peeling paint, the viewer is met with an ironic and detached absurdity.
