Summary
The thick smell of asphalt permeating the streets and the deafening noise emanating from the pile of iron. Seven-year-old Sasha walks through Moscow’s gray construction dust, clutching his violin case tightly. She is caught between the elegant melodies of music and the heavy-toned world of these machines.
The silent bond formed between her and Sergey, perched atop the massive cylinder, halts the city’s relentless pace for a moment. A handful of childhood memories and the tranquility of a lunch break slowly take shape on the canvas of Tarkovsky’s camera. Amid the ordinary flow of daily life, this is the centuries-old echo of a friendship forged bit by bit.
